A jet ski accident July 15 resulted in the death of Darrell E. Lowry, 50, of Dudley.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. July 15 the Conservation Police of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was advised of a jet ski crash on the Twin Lakes, near the east boat ramp. Lowry was airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital, Urbana, and DNR was advised early July 24 he succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement declined at this time to reveal the name of the other jet ski operator but did confirm the second operator was transported to Paris Community Hospital with what were described as minor injuries.
According to initial information reported to the DNR, Lowry and a friend were riding their jet skis on the lake, approximately 10 to 15 yards apart. The friend turned right, crossed Lowry’s wake and was splashed in the face with water. When he cleared his vision from the water, he saw Lowry had also turned and crossed his path. Both operators were thrown from their jet skis during the collision.
A fisherman used his boat to get the two men to shore, call 911 and attempted first aid until first responders arrived.
No additional information was available from law enforcement.
