A traffic crash at the intersection of the Shiloh Road and state Route 133 claimed the life of a Hume man.

The Illinois State Police report the accident occurred at 8:16 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Hume resident ran the stop sign and drove his 1982 Honda motorcycle into a 2014 Mercedes Benz SUV. The motorcycle was southbound on the Shiloh Road, and the SUV was eastbound on Route 133.

Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett said Eric N. Marcrum 32, was transported to the emergency room of Horizon Health Paris Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“The impact caused Marcrum to be ejected from the motorcycle and the car to end up in the field on the south side of Illinois Highway 133,” said Barrett. “He was not wearing a helmet. The occupants of the car immediately administered aid until first responders arrived.”

Barrett added first responders were on the scene within minutes of the accident. Agencies responding to the accident included the Paris Fire Department and Redmon Station of the Paris Community Fire Protection District, Horizon Health Ambulance, the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.

Occupants of the SUV were Stephen Shrader, 71, Arcola, William Blackwell, 73, Arcola, Margaret Blackwell, 65, Arcola, and Connie Shrader, 71, Arcola. They were not injured.

Barrett said the incident remains under the investigation of the coroner, the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police
