Posted

An incident at the property behind Wenz School in Paris has prompted the lockdown of the school as a safety measure.

A law enforcement officer at the scene confirms nothing happened at or in the school and no children or school personnel were harmed.

Officers have stretched police line tape across the alley running behind Wenz and are blocking Jefferson Avenue as the investigation continues.

No information about what happened is being released at this time as investigators are continuing to put the pieces together. Illinois State Police K-9 units arrived shortly before noon and were preparing to do a ground track with the dogs.

Agencies on scene include the Paris Police Department, the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department, the ISP and the Illinois Conservation Police.

Shortly before 2 p.m. law enforcement had largely moved away from the location behind Wenz School except for a few officers keeping the scene secure for the arrival of technicians from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab. Wenz students had also been released by that time

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided when it can be confirmed.
