Charles “Chuck” William Heinlein Jr., 62, passed away Feb. 3, 2020, at the Mattoon Manor after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

A memorial service is from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Charleston.

Mr. Heinlein was born March 9, 1957, at Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Charles William Heinlein Sr. and Patricia McKenzie Heinlein in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Lorraine LeRiger, May 5, 2004, and she survives.

He is also survived by his mother; three children and four stepchildren, Miranda Shepherd of Georgetown, Aaron (Cassandra) Heinlein, of Vincennes, Ind., Jesse (Candace) Shepherd of Danville, Todd Smith of Tucson, Ariz., Cory Smith of Mesa, Ariz., Lisa Smith of Sullivan and Niki Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; sister, Doris (Irv) Bottom  Largo, Fla., brothers, Dennis (Roxana) Heinlein and Jon (Sophie) Heinlein; nine grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joel Heinlein; and most recently by his father.

Mr. Heinlein had a wonderful sense of humor. He was able to maintain a positive attitude and often used humor to help others cope with his illness.
