MOUNT ZION — Shirley Ann Turner, 73, of Canon City, Colo., and formerly of Mount Zion, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, in Saint Thomas More Hospital, Canon City. She was a teacher for 34 years. 

A service celebrating her life is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, with Minister Rocky Woolery officiating. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Turner was born Nov. 27, 1946, at Danville, the daughter of the late Billy and Patricia Peel. She married Gaylan Lee Turner, June 6, 1970, and he preceded her in death. 

Surviving are her daughters, Stacey Turner and Molly Turner of Canon City, Colo.; sisters, Karen (Ken) Brown and Donna Richardson; and brothers, Larry (Debbie) Peel and Michael Peel.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Mrs. Turner was most recently a second-grade teacher at Dennis Elementary School. She previously taught at Lincoln Elementary School.  She was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church. She was a former member of South Side Country Club and was an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends
