After more than a month of searching, Paris Union School District 95 found its new principal for Memorial Elementary School. Lucy Tarr begins her tenure as principal Aug. 1.

In a special meeting Monday, July 24, members of the Paris 95 school board voted to approve Tarr’s employment with an 11-month contract and an annual salary of $78,000. Tarr replaces Jeremy Larson as the principal at Memorial.

The board also approved the employment of two administrative assistants.

“There’s kind of been some unexpected workload in the central office,” said Lorraine Bailey, interim Superintendent of Schools, of the need for additional help.

The board unanimously approved the hiring of Carol Jones and Connie Sutton. Both Sutton and Jones are retired with the Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) of Illinois – as such neither can work more than 120 days.

“It will only be as needed,” said Bailey concerning the assistants’ work. “If we can get a full-time superintendent back then those days are done.”

Jones’ and Sutton’s contract is effective today, July 25 and runs through June 30, 2024.
