Paris residents near the corner of Madison and Campbell Street were startled by what was described as a loud explosion around 5 p.m. on Friday, July 5. Moments later, a nearby home was engulfed in flames.

Emergency personnel rushed to the 300 block of Campbell Street to battle the flames as plumes of dark smoke spiraled upward. The fire was so intense that the entirety of the Paris Fire Department was called out to the scene.

Police, fire and medical personnel blocked off three roads leading into the intersection. The cause of the blaze is currently unknown. The residence has been reported as unoccupied and no injuries have been reported from the blaze.

This is an evolving story. The Prairie Press will provide updates as they become available.
