Police respond to firearms discharge

Rumors developing over the weekend of a shooting incident resulting in a police chase are greatly exaggerated from what happened.

Paris Police Chief Terry Rogers said there was a firearms incident but there was no chase. He also said the matter was not a shooting incident as the public might imagine.

“There was a discharge of a firearm that resulted in injury to the person,” said Rogers.

According to the chief, the initial call around 6 a.m. Sunday, July 30, was for medical assistance. Police heard the ambulance dispatch and went to the location.

“The scene was secured immediately,” Rogers said, and the individual was taken for treatment.

No arrest was made at the time because the individual was transported for what Rogers described as minor injuries. He added low enforcement has submitted reports to the Edgar County State’s Attorney and are seeking the filing of charges.

He declined to provide additional information about the person involved, the nature of the incident or where it occurred since no charges had been filed or arrests made as of early Monday afternoon, July 31.

“It was an isolated incident,” Rogers said.
