CASEY — The IHSA Class 2A fourth-ranked Paris Lady Tigers continued their undefeated season rolling over Little Illini Conference foe Casey-Westfield 73-27 Thursday at Casey.

It was the first time in exactly one week, the Lady Tigers took to the court due to the snowstorm earlier this week that forced the cancellation of schools. Remarkably, it was also the first time in nearly a year the Casey-Westfield Lady Warriors faced competition due to the pandemic.

The resounding 73-27 victory for the Lady Tigers pushed their win streak to five to start the 2021 season. Earlier in the week, the Tigers learned they also earned a #4 ranking in the first Associated Press girls basketball poll in Class 2A and a #1 ranking in the MaxPreps.com poll.

Believe it or not, the Lady Tigers trailed in this one as Casey forced a turnover, then knocked down a basket for the early 2-0 lead. That lead was temporary — all of six seconds — as junior sharpshooter Katelyn Littleton knocked down the first of her six 3-pointers to give the Lady Tigers the 3-2 lead. In fact, Littleton scored eight of the Tigers’ first 10 points of the game. By the time the horn sounded to end the first quarter, the Lady Tigers ran out to a commanding 23-9 lead.

The Lady Warriors focused their defensive efforts Madyson Rigdon — the leading scorer for Paris — all night long. That did not deter the Lady Tigers as every player on the roster contributed in some fashion in this blowout. Paris held a 40-point lead heading to the fourth quarter triggering the running clock rule for the final eight minutes.

Littleton led the way for the Tigers with a season-high 24 points. The runner-up to Class 2A Queen of the Hill in 2020 put on a clinic from behind the three-point arc, hitting 6-of-9 shooting for an impressive 67%. Sophomore Kendra Young nearly had a double-double in the game scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Kaitlyn Coombes and Sara Mills provided valuable minutes off the bench in the game. Coombes had nine points while Mills added eight points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Rigdon finished with eight points for the Lady Tigers. Trinity Tingley had four points, five rebounds and three steals. Deming Hawkins chipped in with four points as well while Grace Sullivan contributed three points to go along with two points from Jacoba Harcar and Kenzie Hutchings. Every Lady Tiger that dressed for the game accounted for points in the game.

Richardson led the way for Casey with nine points.

This next week will be a busy one for the Lady Tigers as they host Red Hill Monday evening at 6:15 p.m. for a varsity only contest. On Wednesday, the junior varsity will play for the first time in 17 days as they face Olney at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game. On Thursday, Paris will host Mt. Carmel at 6:15 p.m. in another varsity only game. This will be the first time any Paris team will face Mt. Carmel prior to them joining the Little Illini Conference next season.

One week from today on Saturday, February 27, the Lady Tigers will host St. Joseph-Ogden with the JV game set to begin 11 a.m.
