After a vigilant investigation into a hit-and-run incident on East 1200th Road in Paris, deputies of the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a suspect.

The April 18 incident resulted in the death of 34-year-old Dakota Gibson.

“Based on information discovered during the investigation, the Edgar County State’s Attorney Office filed charges and, at the request of the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office, sought the issuance of an arrest warrant for Rheanna V. Satterfield,” a press release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “Edgar County Sheriff’s Deputies, with the assistance of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, took Satterfield into custody on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

On Friday, April 18, the Edar County Sheriff’s Office announced they had requested a warrant following the “review of evidence, following of leads, interview of witnesses and coordinating with other departments and offices to develop a suspect.”

The office extended thanks to the Illinois State Police, Edgar County Coroner’s Office, Edgar County State’s Attorney’s Office, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Paris Fire Department, Paris Police Department and all members of the public for their assistance in the investigation.

Details on court appearances for Satterfield have not been released.

Information about the investigation was first released on April 13, in a statement from Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett.

“A 911 call came in at 8:27 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. The caller stated that she was traveling on East 1200th road and had come upon a body lying in the roadway,” the report said. “The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call where they determined it was necessary to request the assistance of the Illinois State Police and the Edgar County Coroner.”

Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence at the scene showed Gibson was walking west on East 1200th Road, approximately one mile east of Illinois Route 1, when a vehicle struck him from behind.
