Teacher’s breakfast signals the start of the school year

The 70th annual teacher's breakfast to start the new school year was Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Lake Ridge Church.

Each year the Paris Area Church Women hosts this breakfast for everyone involved in teaching and administration at Paris schools. It's an opportunity to pray over the new school year, express gratitude for those involved in education and get excited for the possibilities new beginnings bring.

After enjoying light breakfast refreshments served by the church women, each school gets the opportunity to introduce their new staff members, honor those going into retirement and sometimes poke a little fun at each other in the process. The breakfast is a longstanding tradition starting the school year on a positive note, and giving people a moment to step away from the stress and rush of getting things in order.

The breakfast takes place the day before school starts, after teachers have finished decorating their classrooms and getting everything ready at the school. This year, due to work being done inside the schools during the summer, some teachers only had seven days between the completion of that work and the breakfast to get everything in order.

At the end of the breakfast each year, guest pastors pray over everyone present as well as the children attending school that year. All the Paris teachers go into the school year covered in prayer and love.
