Tri-County Titans rally past Hawks for division title

TCT playing for LOVC title at 8 p.m. Saturday

After one of their most complete performances of the season on Tuesday night, the Tri-County Titans boys' basketball team was back in Greenup playing the the LOVC Southeast Division Tournament title facing the top seed Villa Grove/Heritage Hawks.  With a spot in the LOVC Overall Championship on the line, the Titans knew that they would have to equal their Tuesday night performance in this game against a Hawks team that has been at the top of the conference ranks all season long.

The Titans needed every bit of energy and might they had.

After a very slow first quarter that saw Villa Grove/Heritage go up 20-8, the Titans used a 23-11 second quarter to tie the contest at 31-31.  Tri-County then used the consistent scoring they had against Cumberland in the second half including a 27 point fourth quarter to complete the comeback and defeat the Hawks 72-66 to hoist the Southeast Division Tournament crown.

Mason Hutchinson led the Titans with a career-high 23 points while Mitch Pollock added 16.  Cole McClain had another solid night off the bench tallying 12 and Blake Lee had 10 in the win.

Jared Stevens led the Hawks with 15 points and the duo of Evan Wilson and Wil Wilson had 14 points each.  Jake Eversole finished with 12 in the loss.

The Titans (15-9) will face the Decatur LSA Lions for the LOVC Overall Championship on Saturday night in Arcola.  Tip off is set for 8 p.m. at Arcola High School.
