Posted

A vehicle struck a train southeast of Paris just before 11 a.m. Monday, May 6. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but 1800 E is closed at the railroad tracks south of US Highway 150 until further notice.

Paris and Vermillion Fire Departments, alongside the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department and Horizon Health, responded to the one-vehicle accident in Stratton Township. The collision occurred on the south side of the tracks.

No serious injuries were reported, and according to dispatchers, the vehicle’s occupants were outside the vehicle and walking by the time emergency personnel arrived.

Paris Fire Department Chief Chad Crampton explained there is no set timeline for when the road will be cleared of debris or when the train will move forward. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

One sheriff’s deputy on the scene noted the parties involved were fortunate to escape unscathed.

“These are normally no-win situations,” he explained.

This is a developing story. The Prairie Press will share any pertinent updates as they become available.
