CHRISMAN—The Crestwood Eagles eighth-grade basketball team waltzed through the annual Chrisman Hardwood Classic last week before rolling past Hutsonville in their final home game of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The Eagles were never tested by their recent opponents, pulling out wins by margins of 37, 34, 30, 28 and 23 points.
Crestwood’s eighth-graders got to experience the thrill of a home victory one last time against Hutsonville in a 49-19 romp.
Keegan Jewell led the Eagles with 11 points, while Marcus Hutchings cracked double-digits with 10. Gage Englum finished with eight while Easton McNabb, Drake Quinn, Mason Moore and Jesse Englebright all accounted for four points each. Will Dennis rounded out the scoring with two.
The seventh-grade Eagles started fast and never looked back in Tuesday night’s opening contest.
Will Dennis and Mason Little both netted 11 points in the win, Syrus Osborne and Easton Brewer followed close behind with eight points apiece.
Deegan Starr finished with six, while Iziah Oba, Fender Davis, Benson Lorenzen and Trevon Brown all got in the scorebook with two points each.
In the Hardwood Classic title game, the Eagles never trailed en route to taking the championship by a score of 44-21 over Shiloh.
Crestwood led 13-2 at the end of the first quarter and 23-6 at halftime. The Eagles outscored Shiloh 25-15 in the second half to seal the win.
Marcus Hutchings led the scoring for Crestwood with 23 points. Hutchings hit seven baskets and two threes, while finishing three of six from the foul line. Keegan Jewell added six points for Crestwood.
Waggoner led the scoring for Shiloh with nine points while Tharp added six.
In the second game of the tourney, the Crestwood Eagles’ offense was practically unstoppable as they defeated an outmanned Arthur Christian team 56-28.
The Eagles jumped out to an early advantage, leading 29-8 at the end of the first quarter. Crestwood led 40-17 at halftime.
The second half was much the same as Crestwood outscored Arthur Christian 16-11 to take the victory.
Marcus Hutchings was unstoppable offensively—the Eagle eighth grader netted 35 points. Hutchings hit 15 baskets, a three and one of three attempts from the foul throw line. Keegan Jewell hit a three and three baskets for nine points.
The Eagles coasted to an easy win in the opening game of the Classic, 60-23.
Marcus Hutchings led all scorers with 30 points, hitting 13 baskets, a three and one of two free throws. Gage Englum also scored in double figures with 14 points, netting five baskets, a trey and one of two from the line. Keegan Jewell added nine for Crestwood on four baskets and a free throw.
