EFFINGHAM — The Illinois State Police report a fatal accident occurred at 5:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, on U.S. Route 40 at Baystown Road in Clark County.
According to the police report, Joseph B. Roseberry, 55, Terre Haute, Ind, was driving a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Route 40. Tosha Y. Davis, 44, was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Austin S. Lowry, 25, Martinsville, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Route 40 and was behind Roseberry’s motorcycle. Roseberry slowed to attempt a right turn, and Lowry’s vehicle struck the rear end of the motorcycle.
Davis was ejected and declared dead at the scene. Roseberry was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Lowry refused medical treatment. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
