A 500-mile bicycle ride by military veterans commemorating the fallen and injured will pass through Paris Wednesday, Sept. 22.
Wednesday is the second day of the five-day trip, which requires riders to cover 100 miles daily. Participants in the Gold Star Mission ride depart Urbana that morning and stop at the Paris Veterans of Foreign Wars Post for a meal to rest and refuel their bodies.
Riders are expected to arrive at the post between 11 a.m. and 12:20 p.m., and the goal is to depart from the post as soon after noon as possible.
The route into Paris is on state Route 133 with a turn onto Springfield Avenue to reach the VFW.
After the meal, they will depart as a group and take Jefferson past Wenz School and then to the Paris Square for a ride around the courthouse before leaving on state Route 1 for the day’s destination at Lawrenceville.
Members of the public are encouraged to be along Court Street, near the VFW, to cheer the veterans as they arrive or depart. Other viewing sites to cheer the veterans is Washington, across from Wenz School, or on the square.
