Mayo girls finish with identical records of 20-3

The Mayo Lady Redbirds concluded successful seasons this past week, defeating Mattoon and Casey.

The Mayo seventh grade girls are seeded first in the Class 3A IESA rgional tournament.  The Lady Redbirds have a first round bye and will not play until Monday when they face the winner of the St. Joseph and Georgetown Mary Miller game.

The Mayo eighth graders are also seeded first in their own regional at Mayo. The will play the winner of the Tuscola-Tolono game on Nov. 29. This team took third in the state as seventh graders.

Mayo 37, Mattoon 7

The Lady Redbirds took to the court against Mattoon in their final game of the regular season downing Mattoon 37 – 7.

Macy Bicknell proved to be unstoppable by Mattoon scoring 23 of Mayo’s 37 points. Kaidence Eveland and Klaire York both added 5 points in the win while Keegan Noel and Alexis Landsaw scored a bucket a piece.

The eighth-grade lady Redbirds finish the season with a 20 – 3 record. They now look to their regional which begins Nov. 28, and is hosted by Mayo.

Mayo 30, Mattoon 12

The seventh grade Lady Redbirds took the court for their final game of the regular season defeating Mattoon 30-12.

Sloan Vilk and Ava Tarr combined for 22 of the Redbirds points scoring 11 points each. Adalee Morris hit 2 buckets for 4 points while Natalie Bridgewater and Hellie Barrett both added a bucket a piece.

The Lady Redbirds finish their regular season with a record of 20 – 3 and turn their sights now to regional play next week.

Mayo 41, Casey 21

The eighth grade Lady Redbirds took to the court against Casey taking the win 41-21.

Ava Tarr led the attack against Casey scoring 16 of Mayo’s 41 points. Adalee Morris added 10 points in the victory. Maddox Adams added 6 points while Natalie Bridgewater added 5 points, Bella Rogers added a bucket points and Leah Sanders added a free throw.

With the win over Casey the eighth grade Lady Redbirds move to 19 – 3 on the season.

Mayo 30, Casey 15

The Mayo Redbird seventh grade girls faced off against Casey defeating them 30 – 15

Natalie Bridgewater led the way in scoring for Mayo with 11 points. Adalee Morris drained 4 buckets for 8 points. Bella Rogers added 6 points in the win while Ava Tarr knocked down a trey and Hellie Barrett added a bucket.

The win over Casey keeps the Redbirds rolling putting their record at 19 – 3.
