Mr. Pennington was born July 1, 1923, in Paris, the son of the late Forest and Mabel Stigler Pennington. He married Martha Morris in 1956, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2001.

Survivors include two children, Teresa Pennington and Mark (Shelley Kelsheimer) Pennington, both of Paris.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister.

Mr. Pennington was a 1941 graduate of Paris High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces, serving from 1942 to 1946. As a pilot in the 315th Troop Carrier Group, Mr. Pennington flew missions in WWII England and France evacuating prisoners of war and wounded personnel, as well as hauling cargo such as medical supplies, signal equipment, rations and gasoline.
