CHARLESTON – Evelyn Marie Goble Pinnell, 99, of Charleston, and formerly of Kansas and Ashmore, passed away at 9:07 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at the Villas of Hollybrook, Charleston.

A service celebrating her life is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Tribby officiating. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery, rural Kansas. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pinnell was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Edgar County, the daughter of Edwin and Lillian Honnold Goble. She married Wayne Pinnell on Dec. 7, 1941, at the home of her parents, and he preceded her in death in 2009 after 67 years of marriage. 

She is survived by a daughter, Diana (Jim) Slager of San Jose, Calif.; a son, Jerry (Donna) Pinnell of Charleston; five grandsons, Steve (Joetta) Pinnell of Kansas, Matt Davis of Kansas Jason (Priscilla) Pinnell of Verona, Wis., Jarod (Ashley) Pinnell of Dewey and Justin Pinnell of Champaign; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Chris) Larson of San Jose and Deb Davis of Springfield; five great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen C. Pinnell; and brothers, Ervin Goble, Lloyd Goble, and two infant brothers.

Mrs. Pinnell was a homemaker and a hard-working farm wife. Being devoted to her family, she was forever interested in the activities and schooling of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loyal fan to the St. Louis Cardinals and also the Fighting Illini. She was a member of the Kansas Methodist Church and Ashmore Home Bureau.

Memorial donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
