James Oscar Shrader, 81 of Paris, passed away at 2:42 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, with family and friends at his side. He was retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he was an engineer.

A service celebrating his life is 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Templeton Funeral Home. Burial with military rites follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Shrader was born Oct. 20, 1940, in Coles County, the son of the late John William and Mary Jane Childress Shrader. His parents passed away when he was young, and he was raised by his grandparents Joseph and Alice Shrader.  He married the love of his life, Brenda Arlene Alldredge Nov. 27, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris. They celebrated 43 years of marriage together. She passed away Dec. 14, 2014.

Survivors include Brenda’s loving dog Missy; his cat Callie; two nieces, Amanda and Teresa in Tennessee; several cousins; and many special friends and co-workers in the Paris area. 

He was preceded in death by brothers, Eddie and John; and sister, Dorothy.

Mr. Shrader graduated from Charleston High School in 1958, Eastern Illinois University and University of Illinois Tech School. He was in the United States Army Reserves for six years, enlisting with the 1544th Transportation Unit in Paris. He was an engineer with IDOT for 36 years and 6 months when he retired in December 1994.

Memorial donations may be made to the Edgar County Animal Shelter.
