The Rev. Fr. Barry Joseph Harmon, 58, of Springfield, and formerly of Paris, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home in Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Rev. Harmon was born Dec. 16, 1962, in Paris, the son of the late Charles B. and Carolyn L. Curl Harmon.

He is survived by his siblings, Meg (Carl) Pena of Greenwood, Ind., and Julie (Robert) Benning of Jeffersonville, Ind.; his nieces, Rebecca Benning, Kathleen (Billy) Chinn and Allison Pena; his nephew, Brendan (Jaycie) Benning; and his great-nephew, Greyson Chinn.

Rev. Harmon was a man of great faith, and he used that faith to become a Catholic priest. He was a cherished member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of the Sepulcher.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
