Shirley Joan Saiter, 86, of Paris, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at Horizon Health Paris Community Hospital. She was retired after more than 65 years as a registered nurse with Paris Community Hospital, Union Hospital, Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, and HRC of Edgar and Clark Counties.
A service celebrating her life is 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Templeton Funeral Home, with Bro. Kurt Speece officiating. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery, Kansas. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. The service Thursday is limited to 50 attendees.
Mrs. Saiter was born April 12, 1934, in Coles County, the daughter of the late Loren and Elizabeth Snyder Lang. She married William Richard Saiter on Aug. 5, 1956, in Westfield, and he preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2007.
Survivors include a son, Timothy W. Saiter of Paris; a sister, Sandra Johnson of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lang; and a sister, Betty Sloan.
Mrs. Saiter was a 1955 graduate of the Memorial School of Nursing in Springfield. She was a member of Bell Ridge Christian Church for many years where she had taught Bible School. She was also a member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau. She was a talented, award-winning baker and will be remembered for putting the needs of others ahead of her own.
