The Paris Lady Tigers played their way into the semifinals of the NAL Thanksgiving Tourney by early defeating Rantoul and avenging a loss in last year’s tourney to Terre Haute North.

Coach Dave Tingley’s team will face the Charleston Lady Trojans at 11 a.m. today at PHS in the semifinal of bracket play. A win will place Paris in the championship game at 5 p.m. while a loss will mean playing for third place at 3:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers begin regular season play Tuesday when they host St. Joseph-Ogden. Tip off for the junior varsity game is at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.

Paris will resume play after Thanksgiving when they host Newton on Dec. 1 and then travel to Marshall on Monday, Dec. 5, to play the Lions. Both are Little Illini Conference contests.

Paris 35, TH North 28

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers picked up their second win of the young season with a 35-28 win over the Terre Haute North Patriots.

The win was especially sweet as the Patriots edged the Lady Tigers in the 2021 tourney to take the championship.

The game was closer than the final score indicates.

Each team scored 16 points in the first half to take a 16-16 tie into the lockerroom at halftime.

Paris outscored North 8-7 in the third quarter to take a 24-23 lead into the final quarter.

In the final eight minutes, Paris outscored North 11-5 to take the win.

Paris led by one point with a a little more than two minutes left in the game, but hit their free throws down the stretch to take the win.

Trinity Tingley led the scoring for Paris with five baskets and four free throws for 14 points. Graci Watson added 8 points for Paris followed by Vivian Moore — who hit the only three-pointer for Paris — with 6 points. Jacki Clark added 4 points to round out the scoring for Paris.

Paris 50, Rantoul 21

The Lady Tigers got off to a quick start in their first game of the season Monday when they rolled to an easy 50-21 win over Rantoul.

The Lady Tigers outscored Rantoul in every quarter, jumping to a 15-6 lead and taking a 26-15 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.

Paris’ defense got to work in the second half, allowing only 6 Rantoul points while hitting 15 then 9 points respectively in the third and fourth quarters to take the 29-point win.

Vivin Moore was the only Lady Tiger in double figures with two three pointers and three baskets for 12 points. Three Lady Tigers scored 8 points. Kaitlyn Coombes added 8 points including a three pointer while Peighton Smith also netted 8.  Graci Watson and Deming Hawkins each added 4 points.
