Redbirds have mixed season

The junior high basketball season is quickly drawing to a close and the Mayo Redbirds have enjoyed mixed success on the hardwood.

With the LEIC Tournament underway, the seventh grade team enters play with an overall record of 7-9 while the eighth grade record sits at 9-7.

The seventh grade squad had wins over Marshall, Martinsville, Arthur, Georgetown, Casey, Oblong and Arcola with their losses coming to Tuscola, Crestwood, Cumberland, Lawrenceville, Westville, Charleston, Robinson, Hutsonville-Palestine and St. Joseph.

For the eighth graders, wins have come against Tuscola, Crestwood, Martinsville, Westville, Arthur, Georgetown, Robinson, Oblong and Arcola with losses to Marshall, Cumberland, Lawrenceville, Charleston, Casey, Hutsonville-Palestine and St. Joseph.

The LEIC Tournament began Friday, Jan. 7, and will run through Thursday, Jan 13. Oblong is hosting the tournament.

Both Mayo teams will wrap up the regular seasons with a road game at Jasper County (Newton) Jan. 18 and a home date with Teutopolis Jan. 20.
