VILLAGE GROVE — The Tri-County Titans boys basketball team met the Villa Grove Blue Devils in a rematch Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Villa Grove.

It was a competitive and exciting game as the Titans came back from a 28-22 first half deficit to tie the game, force overtime play and a win.

These two teams faced off in the season opener in Oakland during the Titans Turkey Tournament with the Titans taking a six-point win.

Play at Villa Grove was almost point for point all night long ending in a 54-54 score when the buzzer sounded. The teams still went point-for-point with eight points each after the first four-minute overtime round.

Another four minutes was added to the clock and this time the Titans outscored the Blue Devils 8-5. The final game score was a 70-67 win for Tri-County.

One big factor in the Titans win was free-throw shooting as they went 9 of 15 for 60%, while the Blue Devils were just 3 of 15 for 20%.

Four Titans reached double figures in scoring. Gaige Cox led the way with 16 points, Jack Armstrong had 14, Greg Reese had 13 and Payton Bell added 10 points. Ashton Thompson had eight points in the win.
