Autopsy report reveals cause of death for Grandview resident

GRANDVIEW – In a report published on March 19, Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett revealed the cause of death of Grandview resident Gordon L. Brown Jr.

Brown’s body was reported on the morning of Tuesday, March 2 at 9:57 a.m. by a friend who had stayed the night at his house the evening before and found him unresponsive.

The Edgar County Sheriff's Department, Grandview Fire Department, and Horizon Health Ambulance arrived on the scene within minutes of the call and pronounced Brown dead at the scene. 

An autopsy and toxicology report conducted on Monday, March 4 by forensic pathologist Shiping Bao found Brown’s cause of death was acute toxicity of fentanyl and cocaine. 

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
