Sycamore Pain and Wellness, a service of Horizon Health, welcomes Jenny Houzenga to its outpatient behavioral health team.

Houzenga is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and Wabash Valley native. With specialized training in mental health and psychiatric care, she assesses, diagnoses and manages mental health and substance abuse disorders. She provides psychiatric medication management services for adolescents to geriatric patients.

“Jenny is a great addition to the Sycamore Pain & Wellness team,” said Kim Cooper, director of Terre Haute clinic services. “She has an impressive background and has spent her entire career in the Wabash Valley.”

Houzenga has more than 10 years of healthcare experience, four of those years as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She has experience in home care, hospice and inpatient behavioral health.

“My goal is to lessen the stigma of behavioral health,” Houzenga said. “Mental illness is real, and a lot of people don’t believe that. More than likely, someone you know suffers from a mental health condition.”

Houzenga has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and business administration from Indiana State University. She has a master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner and a post master’s certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner from Purdue University.

“A lot of people say I’m easy to talk to. So, I hope people will open up to me because that’s the way to get the best care,” she said.

Houzenga was born and raised in Fairbanks, Ind. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, crocheting and reading.
