PARIS—The First Annual DD Homes 1K Color Run and Walk and Car Show is all about helping others and giving back, according to car show organizer Brad Totten. The combined event is on Saturday, Oct. 12, at West Twin Lakes Park and all proceeds will benefit the residents of Tanner Place and Highview Terrace.

“The money earned will be used for the residents to have fun and exciting activities and visit new and different places which they will choose together,” said Totten. The proceeds will be put in an activity fund for them to use accordingly and will be split between the two homes in Paris.

“This will open up opportunities for the residents to do new things they have never experienced,” he said.

The car show registration opens at 9 a.m. and registration is $15 per automobile with the first 30 entries receiving a unique dash plaque. The show begins at 10 a.m. and awards will be presented at 1 p.m.

The top 15 automobiles will be presented with a plaque with the best of show and individual choice winners receiving trophies.

The run and walk registration, which is $25 per contestant, for the run and walk is at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m. Winners in different categories will receive ribbon and prizes. Totten said the 31 residents of the two group homes along with residents of DD Homes in surrounding areas will participate in Saturday’s events.

In addition, a raffle will be held with donations from local businesses and supporters donating the raffle prizes of more than 50 items. Raffle winners must be present.

Food and drinks will also be available from the food truck Angie’s On Wheels featuring festival type food and drinks along with ice cream.

Old 40 Farm will also be on hand featuring the Terre Haute, Ind. farm’s goats.

“For some time the residents have been visiting the Paris Twin Lake Cruisers car shows and cruise ins. They began volunteering and helping us with the shows so this sounded like the perfect combination,” Totten said. “It’s very fulfilling to work with the residents so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to let them earn extra money for special things they want to do.”
