Local film fans, community leaders, friends and family members will have the opportunity to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime event when “The Farmer’s Daughter” premieres at the Shiloh School Gymnasium next week.

After nearly two years of production, the highly anticipated documentary staring Hume native Tara Barrett Duzan and her story of “family legacy and small-town farming” will show for free at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The premiere is open to the entire Edgar County community.

“All of the documentary was filmed right here. Some of it was filmed at the Shiloh school, so I thought the school would be the perfect place to show it to the public for the first time,” said Duzan.

The Thursday evening premiere is the community’s first opportunity to see the film in full. It will also be the first time friends and family of Duzan watch the project in full.

Directed by the Nashville-based biographer Scot England, the film chronicles Duzan’s emotional journey from the newsroom to the fields, a transition shaped by personal loss, resilience and a deep-rooted commitment to her family’s agricultural legacy.

Through interviews with family, friends and former colleagues, the documentary captures the challenges she faced after the tragic loss of her brother and father, ultimately stepping into a role she never imagined for herself.

“Tara’s story will touch your heart,” explained England. “It will make a lot of people cry. I know I did numerous times as we were making it. It’s a tribute to Tara and her family, but the film is also a tribute to every other female farmer and all the small family farmers around the country.”

The Farmer’s Daughter will also be available on various streaming services in the near future.
