Donald W. “Red” Camp, of Grandview Township, is celebrating his 88th birthday March 2.

He is retired from farming, Eastern Illinois University and Grandview Township where he served three terms as road commissioner.

Camp is a native of Edgar County and was raised in Symmes Township. He lived in Paris for one year after getting married and before entering the military.

He returned to Edgar County in 1961 after completing his time in the military and began raising beef cattle. For a period, he specialized in calf production as a veal supplier. The veal side of his cattle business lasted 10 years.

Camp and his late wife purchased ground in Grandview Township in 1970 and built a home. He has lived there since 1971.

He also worked at EIU as kitchen laborer and retired from the university and farming in 1997. He still keeps a few steers at the homeplace.

Camp will appreciate receiving cards, and they may be sent to 3511 925th St., Paris, Ill. 61944. The omission of gifts is requested.
