PARIS — The Paris Fire Department has determined that a structure fire in the 300 block of East Madison Street was intentionally set. The department and local first responders arrived on scene at approximately 6:19 a.m. Friday, June 26.
“The incident remains under active investigation by the Paris Fire Department and the Paris Police Department. Officials said no additional information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation,” Paris Fire Chief Zack Janis said in a statement to the Press around 9 a.m. on Friday.
Upon their arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered smoke showing from the structure. An all-call was initiated for additional personnel, and crews deployed a 1¾-inch handline from Engine 1 to extinguish the fire. Positive pressure ventilation was then used to clear smoke from the structure, and firefighters conducted a thorough search for hidden fire extension in the upper floor and concealed spaces, according toJanis.
Following a preliminary investigation, fire officials determined the blaze was intentionally set.
Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contact the Paris Police Department or the Paris Fire Department.
