In a public statement on Facebook, the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department released details of an officer-involved shooting incident on Friday in Chrisman.
According to the release, “On Jan. 3, 2025, at approximately 9:36 a.m., deputies from the Edgar County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 23499 East 1575th Road for a trespassing complaint.”
After arriving at the scene, deputies attempted to make contact with individuals inside the building.
“They were met by a male subject in possession of a rifle. An armed confrontation occurred between the subject and the deputies,” the statement explained. “During the confrontation, a deputy discharged their firearm, ultimately striking the subject. No deputies were injured during the altercation.”
Following the altercation, lifesaving measures were given to the subject and they were transported by helicopter to Carle Hospital in Champaign to receive treatment.
When asked for a comment, Sheriff Jeff Wood told a Prairie Press reporter the Illinois State Police are investigating the incident and additional information will not be available until a later date.
