Edgar County woman in custody following double car theft

Posted

A woman reportedly stole not one, but two vehicles during the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 15. The first vehicle was a white, Ford F-350 Super Duty.

The unauthorized driver took the truck through multiple cornfields along Preston Street in Symmes Township. During the escapade, the driver ostensibly lost control of the vehicle and drove it into a ravine.

After crashing and walking away from the accident, without injury, it was reported the driver made their way across the street to a nearby residence, where they stole a second vehicle from a private property.

Danielle Sass,  38, was taken into custody in connection with the theft after being discovered by the second stolen vehicle.

An extensive search for the first stolen vehicle led police officers and residents to eventually find the overturned truck. A portion of East County Road 500 North was closed temporarily while the vehicle was extracted.

This is an evolving story. The Prairie Press will provide additional updates as they become available. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
