Firefighters battle Chrisman garage blaze

Posted

CHRISMAN – Picturesque summer skies were obscured by thick, ominous plumes of black smoke over Chrisman on Monday, June 3 when a garage caught fire southwest of town. The fire was first reported around 6:45 p.m. and occurred at a residence on 2225 N Road.

Members of the Chrisman Fire Department and Neal EMS raced to the scene, later joined by firefighters from Metcalf. The blaze engulfed a two-car garage, damaging two vehicles, a nearby chicken coop and a goat house. Fortunately, the adjacent residence sustained no damage, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

“All we can do is laugh about it. Nobody got hurt,” the homeowner told another bystander.

Currently, the cause of the fire is a mystery.

“It’s under investigation – undetermined,” said Jason Burgess, Chrisman Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief.

Firefighters battled with towering flames as sparks flew out of one of the parked vehicles. The blaze was under control roughly 40 minutes after it began.
