Cox and Paris High School Teacher Graham Bennet awarded two large walnut plaques made by high school students to the city of Paris and the 1544th Illinois National Guard Unit. Mayor Craig Smith received the plaque for the city of Paris and Sergeant Stephen Fuller for the 1544th.
“We are thankful for the city and the Guard for all they have done,” Cox said. “Without their assistance, I am not sure how we would have functioned.”
Following the December flood in the high school gym the city allowed the high school to use Eveland Gym for sporting events and P.E. was moved to the 1544th.
