Jim Mathis, a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club, who passed earlier this year, received recognition at a recent meeting.
Dennis Thiel recalled how Mathis served as secretary for the Kiwanis Early Risers club for many years and served as the president of the club. Mathis was named a multi-year distinguished club secretary and received a Legion of Honor Award during his 35 years of membership.
Mathis attended numerous Kiwanis District conventions and could always be seen at various fundraisers throughout the year. He frequented the Honeybee pancake tent, greeting people and taking tickets for the event.
Once the Early Risers organization dissolved, Mathis joined the Noon Kiwanis Club. He served as the secretary for the club for many years before passing in February.
Thiel gathered a collection of the many pins Mathis had received over his years as a distinguished member and officer of Kiwanis and presented them assembled in a mahogany curio box with his name etched on the box along with the Kiwanis emblem.
“This is just another way of remembering him for his devoted service to Paris, and the world through his involvement in Kiwanis,” said Thiel.
Kiwanis Club President, Betsy Higginbotham presented Cindy Mathis, with a plaque commemorating his many phases of service to the Kiwanis.
