Life goes on after high school graduation

Not many people can say they have had the same group of friends their whole life, but Paris High School Senior Seth Worthington can, and to him, that has been one of the best parts of going to school.

“I am having my best year academically,” said Worthington. “I have also decided where I want to go to college and what I want to do.”

Worthington will cross the graduation stage and although he may never miss the high school parking lot again, there is something he will not only miss but will change his life.

“Realistically I’m going to miss my friends. It’s probably cliché but my friends for sure,” said Worthington. “Everyone has friend groups but ours has been together since before grade school. It’s just not realistic to think you can all stay close the way we are when you aren’t going to the same school or living in the same city. I’m going to miss them the most.”

Drama has been a part of his life for many years. He played Pugsley Adams many years ago where he made many friends and has loved the stage ever since. After taking a hiatus, Worthington returned to the stage and this year took on the role of Gideon in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” He will take the stage one last time for the PHS drama department in the upcoming presentation of “Les Misérables” where he plays Jean Val Jean.

Since the beginning of his high school career, Worthington has been part of drama, jazz ensemble, Beacon Brigade, pep band, choir and football with many memories made.

“Beacon Brigade has been my favorite part of high school,” Worthington said. “It is grueling but seeing the hard work pay off is always nice. Oh, and winning trophies is fun too.”

After graduation, Worthington plans on attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he will major in music/theater with a teaching degree. A degree he hopes to put to great use.

“In 10 years hopefully, I’m not in Paris,” said Worthington. “I hope to find my way to a high school with a struggling drama department that I can help raise the level in.”
