In a powerful show of community support and creativity, Loco Estilo Ink hosted a special fundraiser April 4-6, raising an impressive $1,330 for the HRC Council. The three-day event welcomed more than 100 customers to the tattoo studio.
The weekend wasn’t just about tattoos though—it was about creating connections, awareness and inclusion. Customers flooded into the studio to show support, many choosing specially-designed autism-themed flash tattoos in honor of Autism Awareness Month. Others simply came in to get inked, knowing that every piece done that weekend contributed to an important cause.
““The turnout was incredible,” Julia Kauffman, HRC Case Manager and Respite Coordinator, said. “We had a successful turnout. Our individuals had an amazing time learning about the tattoo experience while being engaged with the community. Everyone had a fun time. We want to thank Loco and his whole crew for this opportunity. This one weekend is going to allow the Council to provide entertainment and activities for a fun, full year.”
Members of the HRC Council were present throughout the weekend, greeting visitors, answering questions about their mission and celebrating with the community. They even joined in on the fun themselves, with several members getting tattoos to mark the occasion.
Kids were also welcomed with open arms and given the chance to get temporary tattoos—complete with a full mock experience including a clean area setup, sanitization and even photos to capture the memory.
For Juan Hernandez, owner of Loco Estilo Ink, giving back to the community is something deeply important.
“I want to thank everybody for coming in and showing their support,” he said. “I want to let everyone know that we are open to more ideas for fundraising in our community. I would love to do fundraisers for the local animal shelter and for cancer.”
The collaboration between the tattoo studio and the HRC Council was a unique way to blend art, advocacy and awareness. By opening their doors to people of all ages and providing both education and entertainment, Loco Estilo Ink made it clear that tattoo studios can be spaces of meaningful community impact.
The HRC Council isn’t slowing down either—they’re already gearing up for their next major event: the Special Olympics at Eastern Illinois University on April 27. They invite everyone to come out, cheer on the athletes and continue showing support for individuals with disabilities.
