MARSHALL – Carl M. Wernz, 71, Oblong, and formerly of Marshall, passed away 3:08 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2023, in Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.
Graveside services are noon Saturday, March 25 in Livingston Cemetery.
Mr. Wernz was born June 29, 1951, at Terre Haute, the son of the late Harold M. and Helen Wilmann Wernz.
Survivors include daughters, Lundie Plummer of Paris and Carie (Paul) Jansen of Marshall; grandchildren, Madison Plummer, Dalton Plummer, Kindall Plummer, Gage Jansen and Btyer Jansen; two sisters, Jane Warner and Cartha Gusafson both of Marshall; a brother, Jim (Sue) Wernz of West Union; several cousins; and his dog, Sadie.
He was a 1969 graduate of Marshall High School and a 1971 graduate of Lakeland College where he earned a degree in Agriculture Equipment Technology. He had tremendous work ethic.
Mr. Wernz had an extensive record of public service as he was elected township road commissioner, board member of Clark County Pork Producers, a founder of the Clark Edgar Rural Water District and had been an assistant 4-H leader.
He possessed an Illinois Farm Manager’s License, had been an area farmer and welder, was once employed at Christensen Farms as a Nutrient Field and Grounds Supervisor and had worked at Prox Co. as a welder, assembler, machine operator, material handler and inspector,
Even though he suffered from health issues the past few years he took on a job transporting Amish workers to their job sites daily.
