Phyllis M. Forcum

Phyllis M. Forcum, 83, of Sparta, and formerly of Paris, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon. She was a homemaker, and for more than 30 years before retiring was the co-owner, bookkeeper and receptionist at the family business. 

A celebration of life service is 2 p.m. June 12 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Sparta.

Mrs. Forcum was born April 16, 1937, in Paris, the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Henley Kirby. She was the second to the youngest of 11 siblings.  She married the love of her life John P. Forcum on Sept. 8, 1956, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Chris (Amy) Forcum of Sparta, Curt (Shirley) Forcum of Tilden and Clint (Jenny) Forcum of Baldwin; son-in-law, Jim McCree of Sparta; brother, Gene (Hilda) Kirby of Paris; numerous nieces and nephews; 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by daughter, Cary (Jim) McCree; brothers, Chester Kirby, James Kirby, Ralph Kirby, Clarence “Bud” Kirby and William “Bill” Kirby; and sisters, Edna Rhoads Minnick, Jessie Kirby Blair, Harriett Kirby Forcum and Mary Kirby Lynch; and grandson Elliott Forcum.

Mrs. Forcum was a wonderful mother and a great cook. She was an environmentalist.  She loved her car, a maroon 1980 Camaro, that with the help of John she kept looking like new, She looked forward to the annual Kirby family reunion held in Paris and occasionally in Sparta.
