Thomas David Carroll, 68, of Paris, passed away at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was the owner of the Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. The family will not be present for the visitation. In keeping with State of Illinois mandates due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, everyone attending the service is encouraged to wear a mask while inside the funeral home and the church.

Mr. Carroll was born July 20, 1953, in Paris, the son of the late James Thomas and Barbara Jane Reynolds Carroll. He married Judy Jean Goebel on Sept. 28, 1974, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wheeler. She survives.

He is also survived by his children, Ryan (Megan) Carroll of Paris and Lindsay (Jacob) Englum of Paris; his grandchildren, Harlee (Jacob Gates), Landen, McKenzie and Gage Englum, Olivia, Maxwell and Nolan Carroll; his uncle, William (Jone) Zieren of Charleston; several cousins; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by two infant twin sons, Matthew James Carroll and Justin Thomas Carroll; and an infant grandson.

Mr. Carroll was a third-generation funeral director and as the owner of Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, he served the families of his community for 46 years. He got his start at the Zieren Funeral Home on Court Street in Paris.

He was a long time and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Paris, St. Mary’s Cemetery Board, Illinois Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He was also a licensed insurance agent for Forethought and Global Atlantic Life insurance companies.
