Paris man dies after being struck by vehicle early Sunday

A Paris man died early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while in the roadway on North Main Street, according to the Edgar County Coroner's Office.

Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett said emergency dispatchers received a report of a vehicle-pedestrian crash at approximately 1:27 a.m. on Sunday, July 12. The incident occurred on Main Street (Illinois Route 1) near Roberts Street in Paris.

Responding agencies included the Edgar County Sheriff's Department, Paris Police Department, Horizon Health Ambulance, Paris Fire Department and the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2013 Lincoln sedan driven by a Vermilion County resident was traveling northbound on Main Street when it struck a pedestrian who was in the middle of the roadway near Roberts Street.

The pedestrian, identified as 43-year-old Jason A. Lister of Paris, was transported by ambulance to the emergency department at Horizon Health Paris Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Barrett said an autopsy was scheduled for Monday, July 13, in Springfield and will be conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Nate Patterson.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Paris Police Department and the Edgar County Coroner's Office.
