Scare on the Square, a popular Halloween festivity, is returning to the Paris courthouse square from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. The annual tradition is a fan favorite for youngsters, elders, Halloween enthusiasts and business owners across the county.
The fun starts at Prospect Bank, where treat bags will be available. It continues around the square with trunk-or-treat options, multiple vendors, touch-a-truck activities, opportunities for costume-clad individuals to collect candy from local shops and a car show.
The event is hosted by the Edgar County Monster Mash, in partnership with the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce. Parties interested in participating or becoming a vendor can contact either organizer via Facebook or e-mail.

Halloween Town
Shiloh School families will see their beloved school campus transformed into Halloween Town starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. Students, and their families are invited to dress in costumes and enjoy a festive evening filled with trick-or-treating, food and fun while walking through the “school town” and knocking on the doors with porch lights on for a treat.
Haunted Hayride
Mill Creek Park in Marshall will host a haunted hayride beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18. The cost for the ride is $5, and it includes a hot dog and s’mores. This event is sponsored by the Marshall High School Drama Club.
Witches Night Out
The Historic Harlan Hall will host a Witches Night Out starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 23. The cost of admission for the event is $5 and all proceeds go to the summer lunch program. Hats and brooms for the event are optional.
Monsters Masquerade
The second annual Park Board fundraiser, “Monsters Masquerade,” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Ernie Eveland Gym. Tickets for the costume party are available online in advance or at the door. Guests are encouraged to come in their best masks and costumes for heavy appetizers and a chance to claim a variety of prizes.
Halloween Bar Party
A Halloween Party will kick off at 8 p.m. at 139 Bar in Paris. A cash prize for best costume will be awarded, as well as a selection of themed drinks.
House of Horrors
The Iron Pin Bowling Alley will transform into a house of horrors starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25. Classic scary movies will replace typical sports channels, hair-raising tunes will fill the air and smoke will be lingering over the lanes under the floating candles. Horror movie trivia will begin at 8 p.m., and the scream queen contest will follow at 10 p.m.
Halloween POPS Concert
Paris Cooperative High School and Mayo Middle School are teaming up for a Halloween POPS concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. The event includes performances from the Mayo Middle School Choir, Elite Harmony, Paris High School Drumline and the PCHS Choir. Guests are encouraged to wear their best costumes to the musical afternoon.
Halloween Bingo
HRC and Central State will host a bingo extravaganza at Sassafras Ridge in Marshall on Oct. 30. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the games begin at 6:30 p.m.
Trunk-or-Treat
Mayo Middle School will host a Trunk or Treat for all area students beginning at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30. The free event will take place in the middle school parking lot and will include an option to purchase treats from Steve’s Cookie Box. Only school-appropriate costumes are permitted.
Halloween Karaoke
The Tree Hive in Brocton will host a costume contest and karaoke night starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. The event includes beverage options and prizes for best costume, as well as awards for “best costume with your karaoke song.
Trick-or-Treating
The Tiger Senior Apartments will host trick-or-treating for kids of all ages in the community room from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Putt and Pour
The 2025 PIO Putt and Pour will kick off on Nov. 1 at the Iron Pin Bowling Alley. Details on the event will be released at a later date on the PIO Facebook page.
