United Way of Edgar County has just completed its annual campaign, providing financial support for 19 organizations that serve the needs of people in Edgar County.
We thank you for your support,” the organization said. “Our communities in Edgar County provided the majority of the financial support, coupled with support by industry, banks and insurance services, showing that a community that comes together and supports each other, helps make communities better places in which to live and raise children.”
Each of the organizations fits into one of three categories of service: critical needs, compassionate needs and quality-of-life needs. Critical Needs is the category that nobody likes to talk about, such as hunger, domestic abuse, and suicide. Compassionate Needs support people with special needs, like wheelchair ramps, free clothing and services to seniors. Quality-of-life needs include services for kids, such as sports, scouting and use of the Rec Center. Literally everybody is served by one of these categories, whether directly by personal need, or indirectly as a parent, family member, neighbor or friend.
