Wood is re-elected sheriff

It took about 90 minutes to determine that incumbent Edgar County Sheriff Jeff Wood won re-election for a third term Tuesday night, Nov. 8.

Polls closed in Edgar County at 7 p.m. and the Edgar County Clerk and Recorder’s website posted the total count from all 31 precincts by 8:29 p.m.

Wood, a Democrat, pulled 53.82% of the votes with a count of 3,286. His Republican challenger Doug Cochran polled 2,819 votes for 46.18% of the votes.

The sheriff’s race was the only contested office in Edgar County. All other offices had a single contestant in the form of the incumbent seeking re-election.

As such, Wood continues as the only Democrat in any Edgar County office. The rest are held by Republicans.
