From Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2, Chrisman Jr. High cheerleaders and their coach Kayla Miller had the opportunity to host a team summer cheer camp through the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA). During the camp, the squad learned new curriculum that was focused on mastering fundamentals while having fun.

Individual members of the squad earned daily awards for their hard work and made memories that will last a lifetime. The entire squad earned a superior trophy award, which comes with a special invitation. The group was invited to perform in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Jan. 1, 2025.

Should the team choose to attend the event, they would travel to Orlando for a week of rehearsals in preparation for a halftime performance at the Citrus Bowl. Dancers and cheerleaders invited to this event perform in front of 60,000 fans at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

The Citrus Bowl has been a college football tradition since 1947. The game gives cheerleaders and dancers the opportunity to perform at the seventh-oldest collegiate bowl in the country, as well as the opportunity to visit Universal Studios Orlando.

In addition to the Team award, the UCA camp instructor this year chose six team members for the All-American Cheerleader Award. Any individual cheer team members attending a UCA camp are eligible to try out for All-American. Individuals must perform a jump of their choice, a cheer learned at camp and the camp dance routine. All-American Cheerleader title winners receive an invitation to perform at the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia.

Chrisman’s All-American Award winners were Ave Miller (three-time recipient), Kenzley Stiff (three-time recipient), Laila Ingram, Savannah Vaughn, Emma Swinderman and Hazel Holvani.
