Shanks shares passion for announcing with Challengers

In May of 2023, the Challenger League of East Central Illinois gained a very important member, Brody Shanks. Shanks’ family inquired about playing in the league, but due to the age cap of 21, he was unable to be a player.

After discussions between the Challenger’s board and his parents, it was revealed Shanks had always aspired to be a sports announcer, a dream that started when he was young from watching WWE wrestling.

The board jumped on the opportunity and made his dream come true, hiring him to be the official announcer, indefinitely. Shanks is at every Friday night game announcing the players as they come up to bat, cheering them on and interacting with the Challenger fans.
Friday nights are Shank’s favorite night of the week. His favorite part about Challenger League is the atmosphere and vibe of the league and everyone involved.

Every game is fun and energetic, a good end to each week. During a recent interview, Shanks wanted to thank the Challenger Board for the opportunity and Dave Minor for the assistance at the announcing table.

“They are always amazing,” he said.

Shanks hopes to stay with Challenger League as long as they’ll let him, saying he enjoys the time spent there.

The Challenger Leagues’ weekly games, complete with Shanks’ passionate announcing, are at the Challenger Field behind the Legion on Friday nights.
