TULLAHOMA, Tenn.—Cloyd Archie Samford, age 91, of Tullahoma, Tenn., formerly of Chrisman, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Life Care Center in Tullahoma.

A graveside service is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7 at Franklin Cemetery.

Mr. Samford was born in Chrisman, Ill. on Nov. 4, 1932, to Cloyd and Olive (Bouslog)  Samford.

Survivors include his daughter, Christy Perry (Dale) of Saint Charles, Mo.; his sister  Norma Shumate (Harry) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Juanita (Haga) Samford; his second wife, Elizabeth (Hunter) Samford; two brothers William and Dale Samford and a sister.

Mr. Samford always wanted to be a farmer. He was a member of 4-H and in Future Farmers of America during high school when he won the honor to go to the National Convention during his senior year.

He served in the Army for two years where he was stationed around the U.S. and in Germany.

He was involved in a tractor accident that had a long recovery period. During this time while in the hospital, he met his first wife, Juanita. They later married in 1958.

Mr. Samford had an idea to improve the seating on tractors. He worked on that, applied and received a patent for a new type of tractor seat in the mid-1960s.

The Samford family moved to Missouri in 1972 where he continued farming. During the late 1980s, he supplemented his income by becoming an over-the-road truck driver.

He enjoyed seeing different areas of the country but was happiest when he was on the farm out in the field. After retirement and Juanita’s passing, he moved to Tennessee where he met Elizabeth. They were married and moved to Tullahoma in 2013.

Throughout the years, Mr. Samford was always involved in church activities and always had animals around him.

Memorials may be made in Archie’s name to Hospice Compassus of Tullahoma, 1805  N. Jackson Street, Suite 11, Tullahoma, TN 37388 or to your favorite charity.
