TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A former Chrisman City police chief and Paris Police officer found himself charged with a pair of misdemeanors in August. His recent employment with the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department ended shortly after his arrest.

Toby Krabel, of Chrisman, appeared before the Vigo County Court on Wednesday, Aug. 7 facing two charges: “Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person” (a Class A misdemeanor in Indiana) and “Reckless Driving Drive at unreasonable high or low speed so to endanger safety” (a Class C misdemeanor).

According to Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) records, Krabel’s employment with the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department ended two days later, Aug. 9.

Weeks later, on Sept. 30, Krabel’s first charge, “Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person,” was dismissed with prejudice. Krabel pled guilty by agreement to the second charge: “Reckless Driving Drive at unreasonable high or low speed so to endanger safety.”

The sentence for a Class C Misdemeanor in the State of Indiana is imprisonment “for a fixed term of not more than 60 days.” A defendant found guilty can also be fined up to $500.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
